Who is Frank de Haan?
Frank built his first guitar out of scrap wood and spare parts in the garden shed of his parents in Heiloo. After educating himself further for a few more years by building more guitars, he decided to take things seriously and took a lutherie course at the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair in Big Rapids, USA. He stayed on at Galloup for a year as an internship supervisor, before joining luthier Patrick James Eggle in Oswestry, UK. In 2013, he returned to the Netherlands to start his own guitar business and since 2019 he works in beautiful Heiloo, more or less returning to the place where he started.
Franks enthusiasm for guitar building works two ways. First is that he makes electric and acoustic guitars under the brand names Stoney Creek and De Haan, respectively. The second is his Dutch School of Guitar Making, the only one of its kind in the Netherlands. When Frank started his guitar business, he noticed that there was no place in the Netherlands where people can build guitars themselves. So he realized such a place, and now every guitar enthusiast can build their own dream guitar at Franks workshop in Heiloo.
